The Transit of Venus, 6th June.

Hey guys, Dont forget to try to get a glimpse of this! If any of you are lucky enough to have your eclipse viewing glasses a bit early them check out this extremely rare phenomena; the transit of Venus.

A little black mole will grace the face of Sun at the crack of dawn on June 6. However, the mole is not a mere symbol of beauty, it is Venus – the Goddess of beauty. The rarity of the event could be assessed from the fact that people alive today would never get a second chance to view it again. Reason: transit of Venus is among the rarest of predictable astronomical phenomenon and currently occurs in a pattern that repeats after every 243 years. The transit takes place in pairs, which are 8 years away from each other and separated by long gaps of 121.5 years and 105.5 years – a pattern which repeats after 243 years.

So if you have a pair of eclipse glasses, getting ready for the big event in November, then this is a MUST. Rarer than Halleys comet!

Perfect Weather for Cairns Ironman

Written by Guy Besley, Latitude Travel Services, Port Douglas,

Well the gods eased up and sent the sun for a perfect ay for the Cairns Ironman. And what a race it turned out to be.

Well done David Dellow, for a solid win on the day. Congrats to Matty White coming in fourth, Leon Griffin, sixth and the Doctor (Mitch, 10th).

But please, don’t complain about the heat guys, it was perfect. lol. It is the tropics after all, and yes its winter. If its heat you want then come back for the Tri-Port Long course race on the 1st September. We will throw a bit of wind in too! No glamour at that race, just guts!

And a quick mention to Luke Mackenzie, 2nd in the 70.3, well done…

Anyway, back to reality now, tourism! The weather is absolutely perfect in the tropics today and forcast to stay like this for the next 6 months (ok, that’s a bit ambitious, but its perfect).

So get planning for your trip to the tropics. www. latituderesorts.com.au. Yes I know, I never really give us a plug on this blog, but what the heck, fairs fair, i should be allowed to occasionally hey.

Till tomorrow,
