Port Douglas blog, Tri-Port Half triathlon

Written by Guy Besley, Latitude Resorts Port Douglas,

Good morning all, I have mentioned this up coming triathlon a few times now.

On Saturaday the 1st of October the Cairns Crocs Triathlon Club is hosting what is arguably one of the toughest races on the planet! This Port Douglas triathlon is a Half Iron Distance Race comprising of a 1.9km swim, a 90km bike ride and a 21.1km run. OK, so there are plenty of these races all over (70.3 series for a start), so why is this so tough. Simple really, its hot and windy. Just like Kona.

To make things even more exciting the Port Douglas “Tri-Port” triathlon starts at 11.00am, just to let mother nature build up to dish out the best she has to offer. Trust me, mother nature is one tough lady in the tropics.

The Port Douglas “Tri-Port” triathlon is a great “cult” race that over the first 4 years has seen many talented long course athletes compete, including Tim Berkel, Matty White (yes, he had a dnf, I said it was tough), Joey Lampe, Mitch Robins, Anthony Rule, Brian Fuller and many others. And all will agree its tough!!! Its is a race you want to do!

But dont be scared by that, we also have a kids aquathon, a enticer race as well as an olympic distance race. So there really is somthing for everyone. So sign up now, or get a team together and give it a go.

For details go to the Cairns Crocs Triathlon Club website.
